The first and fundamental step in a possible drug treatment lies in the awareness by the individual addict.

By accepting the problem is that you can follow the path of detoxification and rehabilitation of the patient, if more than acceptance, there is a readiness and willingness to solve it.

The next step in the process, then the addict is willing to treatment is one of the toughest for the patient. This instance is the detoxification stage, where they have to cope with withdrawal symptoms.

It is at this point where the patient’s relatives must give its support and control to overcome this stage in the rehabilitation process.

The stage of detoxification can occur through a hospital clinic where the patient is monitored by doctors who can help deal with any eventuality. Moreover, this instance can be carried out elsewhere, and not necessarily through a hospital, provided the patient a restrained by family or friends.

The rehabilitation period

Once these first steps, it should become necessary the patient’s therapy. The potential of therapies, both individual and contain the group. In the case of drugs, usually given individually. In the case of alcoholism, the possibility of the group, as given in Alcoholics Anonymous.

Through therapy, which is looking to locate the problems that led to dependence by the individual. In turn, it is possible that recovering addicts are given severe depression, which are also addressed in therapy, and can be compensated, if desired, with drugs.

Any type of treatment for drug addiction, has a starting point that will give way to later rehabilitation process.

This rehabilitation process has obvious difficulties for the addict, which must be overcome with will and strength as well as containment by family and friends.

You could say that detoxification is the first major obstacle that must traverse the addicted, and then continue with the process of particular treatments.

Anyway, we can also mention a time prior to the detoxification itself can also be considered fundamental in any treatment.

This point is the awareness by the individual affected by dependence. Any treatment must pass through this point, if what you want is to reach fruition. With the acceptance of their situation by the addict, and the will to overcome the problem, the next step is detoxification.
Detoxification and rehabilitation

The stage of detoxification is, as mentioned previously, the most complicated step for the addict, then the first and fundamental point of departure, the acceptance of dependency, awareness and determination to overcome it.

In the stage of detoxification has traits more difficult to overcome. The withdrawal syndrome is, in many cases, the reason why the consumer becomes addicted. The discomfort and pain are normal in this stage, it will be important medical supervision as needed to pass medications.

Following the detoxification process, the steps are entirely aimed at rehabilitation, another vital step in the cessation of consumption, where no return and no relapse into drugs.

Inpatient rehabilitation addiction drug addicts need to stay in the facility where they receive their treatment, and the amount of time they stay will depend on how hard they work on their addiction and learn to deal with patterns of healthy behavior.

Inpatient rehabilitation of drug addicts first will include detoxification, with or without the use of sedatives and pain medication; their inclusion will depend both on whether the system of addicts who can handle chemicals and whether they believe the program will run “cold turkey” when the withdrawal is the best substance abuse prevention for the future.

Once detoxification is completed, the addicts will spend their days learning to take responsibility with a job assigned to them; will be individual and group counseling sessions, and get at the underlying emotional causes of their dependency. This process can last for one month for a year, depending on the severity of addiction. Inpatient rehabilitation of drug addiction is a last resort.

Therapeutic technique in the inpatient facility may include journaling so that addicts can learn both self-observation skills and how to recognize situations where their desire for drugs is triggered.

When addiction or dependence occur before a drug or synthetic chemical characteristics, the stage of detoxification has strong barriers that impede the process. The forms of interruption or detoxification of heroin, morphine, codeine or methadone, all opium-derived substances may be using the full stop drug consumption, or through a process of decreasing the dose gradually until achieve the cessation of use.

The main obstacle, in which most consumers can not stop the drug, or by which many consumers culminate by becoming addicted, the withdrawal syndrome. Any addictive substance, occurs when consumption is stopped, withdrawal.

As withdrawal is known to all the symptoms and effects produced by the body accustomed to a substance, when consumption slows it. These symptoms are the leading consumers to the need to eat again, a matter of avoiding them.

The withdrawal in detoxification

The detoxification treatment for heroin or other opiates, must be accompanied by proper medical supervision. The withdrawal, in most cases, is treated with drugs that reduce symptoms. However, it is important to find the right amount of these drugs, as well as not allowing the addict to rid their medication.

The withdrawal syndrome is presented, depending on the substance, from 12 hours to 48 hours after the last dose consumed. The effects and withdrawal symptoms can last from 7 days to 2 weeks. As mentioned, this depends on the substance has been consumed, and the individual itself.

After past the time of withdrawal, therapy is very important because depression acts strongly on the individual, filling in many cases, a new consumption.

The rehabilitation process

Broadly, the rehabilitation process has three main stages. In the first instance we find the moment of awareness on the part of the addict and the will to recovery by the same. This is the most important stage of recovery time.

In the second instance is the detoxification stage, difficult time for the addict, in which withdrawal occurs, and the need to consume to avoid state and withdrawal symptoms.

Then comes the stage of rehabilitation. In this instance it should be much more when this therapy, which must accompany the outset. Therapy is key to finding the causes leading to consumption, and so work on them.

But beyond detoxification or withdrawal of the drug in the body, is necessary to recover the brain areas that were damaged by addiction, i.e, it is necessary to have a neuronal recovery. The “traditional” methods drug treatment only serve to cleanse (detoxify) the body controlling the symptoms of withdrawal, but not restore these brain areas in which the drug has caused neurochemical changes, with the additional risk that this type of detoxification can mask symptoms of brain damage.

This neuronal recovery is done today by means of an advanced pharmacological intervention conducted by professionals from medicine, psychology and nursing and continuous monitoring of the patient in a hospital setting. Through a process of neuro-adaptation, we act on brain receptors, and in systems and structures as the route that connects the midbrain ventral tegmental area to the nucleus accumbens, basal ganglia, structures that are also associated with withdrawal, by that, by intervening in the recovery of these areas, it prevents the emergence of withdrawal symptoms. So on the one hand, the recovery of brain structures allows the elimination of withdrawal symptoms and allows the craving disappears, the irrepressible desire to use drugs. On the other hand, this intervention, to restore brain functions affected by the drug, makes you restore advanced processes of cognition and emotion, as the attention span, ability to read, consciousness or serenity.

Under these conditions, the drug treatment has several immediate goals: provide a safe withdrawal under medical supervision and psychological addiction to drugs or alcohol withdrawal permits no withdrawal symptoms, ie, without suffering the patient recovered in the process cognitive and affective that had been altered, and allows the patient has a good disposition, not having gone through a treatment with the discomfort of withdrawal, to take control of a life free of addictions.
